My 1 yr old speckled Sussex rooster won’t use his right leg! He just drags it. He can hardly walk. I’ve tried using the sling in the cage idea and he hates it! What should I do? He is staying inside each day but I set him outside with his hens for a bit of free range time.

Poor guy. He looks like he has a bit of frostbite on the tips of his comb, so do you see anything unusual with his foot or toes? Some possibilities could be a bad sprain or broken leg, but with paralysis in a leg, we also think about Mareks disease. Do you see any black toe tips or skin, or any swelling of joints, or bruising on the leg?

Yes, we had temps plummet down into the single digits a few weeks ago and I thought it was frostbite on the feet but I can’t see anything? Please note the mud on his leg from dragging it while outside earlier. He will not sit in the “sling” he thrashes around and it breaks my heart. He is such a good rooster.
