Rooster with no toenails and swollen, bulbous toes. Healed frostbite injury?

I have a 1 year old Easter Egger roo that has a foot problem that we noticed yesterday. The toes on one foot have all lost the nails, and the toes are swollen on the ends. Coloration looks normal. He walks around normally and doesn't act like it's painful.

Could this be an old healed frostbite injury and I never noticed? It was a brutal winter in central OH and I now recall him acting sick for a day but he snapped right out of it the next day.

Thank you Eggcessive. I feel bad for not being more observant when it was below zero. Now that I'm thinking about it, this may also explain why he isn't going after my 10 year old DD and this roo is no longer the dominant male in the flock.

It happens. My d'uccle rooster was in a coop every night snuggled up next to his buddies, and I just noticed it a week or two ago. I saw some comb frostbite also in a couple of large roosters, but nothing terrible.
