I have a Polish Rooster his toes have always been strange, some turning one direction and others fat. He is about 7 yrs old. I noticed
a couple of days ago he had a piece of skin hanging off of one toe. The skin was about 1/4" wide and went all the way around the
lower part of the toe. There was a little blood so I trimed the skin and washed it with Peroxide. I used Neosporen on the wound and
wrapped it with gauze and vet wrap. I left that on a couple of days, then removed the bandage and the wound had turned black on the
top portion and the underneath part was a little lighter that the top. I left it off a day or so and it was still black. I have no Vets that
will treat Chickens.. The upper portion of the toe looks good as far a color goes but this toe has always looked swollen. I don't know how
long you can have Bumblefoot and still be running around like a Rooster. As far back as I can remember that toe has always been swollen
on the upper section and its the part that is fine. Rooster eats and drinks great, he perches at night but only on the other foot. The chickens
get after him and peck him to the point I have to cage him away form the mean girls but I let him sleep with the girls.

Please tell me what you think I can do on this I am attaching pics but they are not great.
As I said before I have called every vet I can drive to and no one will see a chicken.

Thank you,
Terri

Hello and Thank You for your advice. I do not know if I got it too tight or not. I shall start the soaking shortly. Would 3 times a day be good or more often?

My chickens black toe has gotten much much better since soaking it.
Most of the black has peeled off and it is nice and pink. I was wondering
now that it is healing should I stop soaking it in Epson Salts? He is still
limping some and I have kept him in his cage to keep the girls from
beating him up, should I continue to keep him caged? Terri

What does it look like now? Is there still any swelling?
You can try discontinuing the soaking and see how he does.

Were the girls beating him up or was caging just a precautionary measure? If the hens are beating up on him, then housing him separately in his own pen/space may be needed to offer him protection.

At night while he was roosting they would peck at him and I think they may
have removed some of his feathers on his head. Then it seamed that when
his foot was bad (before I put him in his cage) they ganged up on him during the
day a few tail feathers was the damage. I am hopeful after he foot finally heals
they will all be fine.

I was not sure how long to continue the soaking. Here are some pics of what it
look like now.

I think I would soak every other day and see how that goes. It's still healing and he may lose the toenail, hard to know at this point. He has another toe that looks a little damaged too, maybe it's just the photo.
I've never had crested birds, but do see other folks that have them report hens picking at the feathers. Sometimes the only solution is to keep the bird housed separately. He's got pin feathers right now which would likely be picked by the hens. Once they have all grown in, they may not.
