Rooster won't breed hens

Cara, when I finally let my Hawkeye out of quarantine, he and all my girls were 11 months old. He was such a laidback, and also inexperienced, rooster, that it took five MONTHS for me to see the first fertile egg. He just didn't insist on them submitting to him. So, there is hope, but at least Hawkeye would call them to eat and was very selfless with them.

I have a big buff that will take care of your problem. I keep him away from the hens. check your water supply some water has a chemical leeched from plastics that is known to couse sterility in birds

I have a Black Australorp Rooster and he will not have anything at all to do with my 11 hens. My hens are a backyard mix but there are Australorp Hens there too.......He doesn't flirt with them and pecks them on the head and does not even call them to the goodies he finds when they are loose in the yard or woods beside my house. Some one please HELP!!!!!

Free range was the answer to our roos problem. He went active the minute he got out of the pen. I think they feel cramped in the chick run. It's amazing how fast they make up for lost time.
