He/She hasn't laid an egg or crowed. Believed to be about 6 or 7 months. Tries to mate my duck (OMG!), but leaves the other girls alone. He carries no authority with the flock as the hens always pick on him/her and chase him away from the food. He/She hangs out in the nesting box and occassionaly clucks like a hen. However, the neck feathers puffed up pretty cool when there was a fight between my duck and chicken. He/she tried to get in the middle of it, but defended the duck (so wierd). This seems like roo behavior, but I don't know.

Any thoughts? Thanks guys!

EE cockerel.

Males usually are at the bottom of the pecking order until they "realize" their manliness. I have a 6 month old Langshan that's the biggest in the pen...and he's constantly chased by the females...LOL

Just a note about the fighting you mentioned. Two of my hens got into it today in a fight that put my roosters to shame. The neck feathers were up and they were jumping at each other feet first. This went on for a good 10 minutes and it was just after both left the nest boxes after laying their eggs. Ever had two grown women living in a house together? Hens fight too!

I agree that hens can get into some pretty nasty fights too, but that's for sure an EE cockerel.
