... watching a good rooster gathering his girls is the best lol...

I have all full size hens and lil' bantam rooster working overtime. He's the best. We had hawks attacks recently and he's on code red ever since. Good job Babay Roaster.

My 5yo watches him chasing the girls with his wings all propped up and his chest puffed. He calls it "The Bantam belly dance" lol..

sorry just makes me laugh...

Sorry to hear about the hawk attacks.

But oh my goodness the "bantam belly dance" had me rolling. :lau
My grandpa had a proud little bantam rooster and I know exactly what you're talking about.

LOL that's awesome, I'm not crazy afterall. Good to share a chaykins laugh.

He works overtime! I thought about getting a full size roo recently to perk up the defense but I don't wanna offset him. He's super sweet.

Loved the pictures! :)
My grandpa's bantam rooster definitely thought he was the biggest baddest thing in the barnyard. He would often pester the other roosters who were much bigger than he was. Needless to say he was the little leader lol.

They grow so freaking fast... both kids and chickies...lol.. sorry rambling through my pics archive... but I'm happy we introduce him to taking care for them, sounds cheezy but I believe learning basic skills should be part of a learning foundation.

Still not sure why they chase him around and how the heck he picks them up like pups... they all run away from me... but him... no worries no threat... oh... food all over. Got it :)

That's actually awesome observation LOL!!!! Call it overcompensation but could bantam lil' guys be more "alert"?

I like the fact that he never "harasses" any of the girls... push comes to shove, they just "shake him off", which I kinda feel bad for him, but on the other hand, I've had more fertilized Bahamas than any other of my breeds; which defies geometrical holes alignments... but Bayby rooster did it (wing-to hand hive fives)

So long story short, maybe a bantam roostie is a good compromise if having an over aggressive rooster is a concern.

That ferocious little Bantam is so cool!

They are so funny to watch,

I currently have 2 Silkie roosters 20 weeks old, and one of them seems to have singled out one of our Plymouth BR hens as his object of desire!
Well... he stands no chance!! The hen is almost twice his size, but that doesn't seem to register in his tiny mind :gigby the time he has grabbed hold of some of her neck feathers with his beak, his business end is too far away from her business end!! But he keeps trying bless him! I wonder if he'll ever learn?!!

I wouldn't upset the dynamics you have going now by adding a standard roo. Your little guy is happy and friendly. I'd just be happy with that. Honestly there's not a whole lot that a standard roo is going to do for you that the little guy isn't already. As far as from a defense standpoint, most predators that are a threat during daylight would just kill him first. There are cases of them doing amazing things, but that's more the exception than the rule. He's beautiful by the way.
