Hello all, pretty new chicken raiser, have 2 3-month old New Hampshire reds & 7 mixed breed baby chicks. Made a pvc feeder w 2" pvc a few weeks back, just changed the design & I keep noticing red stuff on top part of pvc. I clean it off and it will be there the next day. Maybe should have made it 3" so his head & comb can all fit in. Is this normal?

It's blood. He may be cutting his comb on the feeder or possibly he's getting into squabbles with other flock members and it's getting bitten. If it's happening daily I'd say it's probably small cuts due to the repeated action of bumping his comb on the feeder while eating.
