HELP, I just got chicks this year for the first time and now after 5 months I have discoved that I have 5 roosters and 7 hens. I do realize that I cannot have that many roos. These roosters seem to pick on one hen and she doesn't seem to like it. She tries to hide. One after another the jump on her back and sometimes one will peck her face while the other is on her back. I feel awful for her. I have tried to isolate her a bit in the day. She stays inside the coop and all the other roos and hens are in their pen. Please help with any tips..Thanks

Get rid of the roos. Save your poor hen.

Do you have any roos?? Im not so sure I should keep any, they scare me a bit...

If your uncomfortable with a rooster don't keep one. They are not necessary for your enjoyment.

i have a similar issue, one rooster and 3 hens.. all was fine.. i added one more hen and for few weeks no issues. however, one day i was looking for her and found her in the nesting box hiding.. at careful checking i noticed, her neck below the comb had a dime size wound. the feathers were picked and skin was torn.

i separated her and did iodine and hydrogen peroxide treatment and she healed in 2 weeks. i decided to keep her away for another 2 weeks total of 4 weeks.

then i let her back ... and in a day i saw my rooster get on her back try to mate and then get off her back and started picking at the same spot. i separated him and then isolated her for 3 more weeks.

tried again.. same results and she is isolated again.

my rooster does not do that to any of the other ones and is a pretty gentle one. but with her he becomes a devil.

any suggestions?

thanks.

Since its his behavior towards one hen, you may have to get rid of one of them. Its hard to stop such actions.

yup i was afraid of that. love the rooster and her. not sure if this will help.. i read about rooster booster paste to discourage him ... willing to do anything to make them be all together.
