I noticed both of my roosters have this going on. Is it some kind of mite?
 
Agreed. It's not a case of: "WOW! That roo has scaly leg mites!!!" Rather: "I'm not sure, those legs look dry, and there might be some scaly leg mites, so... it wouldn't hurt to treat him, and the rest of the flock." At the very least, he and his gals will get a foot spa treatment.
 
Cooking oil, vaseline, castor oil, mineral oil, any type of oil that would be safe to put on skin. Simply apply to the bird's legs and feet. Easiest to do at night. The oil smothers the mites that live between the scales on the legs/feet. A bad infestation can also affect the comb and wattles. Repeat 7 - 10 days later to kill any mites that hatch from eggs after the first treatment.
