Roosters spurs...best way to remove?

What's the best way to 'remove' a roosters spurs? Can they be filed down so they aren't sharp?

Also, i think my hens are pecking at his comb, is there something i can put on it to make them stop?

There is a great video on you tube that shows how to remove spurs for the comb I would use blue kote or something like it. Chickens will peck at blood and not stop. Good luck.
