This world is not my home.
I'm wondering if anyone has tried to develop a line of roos who seldom crow?

I seem to have one right now and got to thinking about how handy that would be for folks who live in towns and cities.

Can this even be done or would it take a long time to truly develop such a characteristic?

Mine used to crow on occasion, but rarely, when I had other roos, but since I culled all the other roos, he has been totally silent. For the past 4 days, not a peep. Scared to crow? Maybe....

I'm hoping this continues and I'm wondering if other folks out there have quiet roos.

I wish there was! We live in the city and we would really like to have a roo,but we would get in trouble.

I have a roo that will crow when one of the girls gets out of the yard, and when he's in the house. He crows at the rising sun, but only a couple of times, and since there aren't any windows in the coop, he thinks the sun's rising at least an hour and a half later than it actually does, because the plexiglass pop door is placed low on the East wall blocked from direct sun by other buildings and landscaping.

I get maybe 7 or 8 crows out of him a day, and they're not all that boisterous- my banty Cochin would blast like a steam whistle all day long!

...and they're not legal here, so it's definitely a concern!! I'll take one when you get that breed perfected!!

Yeah, I hope someone comes out with a roo that doesn't crow (dont think it will happen anytime soon) because I have a lot of neighbors and would love to have a roo, but we cant

There are dogs who rarely bark, Malamutes, so why not chickens?

I just don't think that this was really an issue until now, with all the city troubles. Might be something to look into.

Too bad I killed two roos this Sat. that didn't crow either......

Well, I have heard from many people that most rocks seldom crow. I know with my partridge rocks and many other people PRs they are crowing mostly at sunrise and not again.

That's the breed of my silent roo! I didn't know that about the breed....that is interesting! Mine hasn't even been crowing at sunrise lately.

It would seem like folks who want a roo in town would try it with these beautiful PR guys and see how it worked out. They are a good dual-purpose breed with meaty offspring. And they are sweet natured and very beautiful.
