I know that this is a dumb question but I'm thinking of getting more chickens. I have brown hens right now. I wanted to get different breeds. Do I need the same breed rooster for whatever breed of hens I get?

How many different breeds do you have? I have roosters (wyndotte mixs and on silver laced)that are very big an hardy and if i do another incubation ill only do it with eggs from similar size an looks of the hens i have. I hatched some wyndotte (dad) and austrolop (mom) eggs. They look like theyre mom. I wont hatch eggs from my rirs or leg horn because they are smaller and i personally wont the similar genes so the chicks grow healthy an strong. I will be trying in spring some from my wyndotte hens.

I have no idea. I just know that they're brown hens. Is it important to have purebreds? I'm not interested in "show chickens". I just want to add different looking ones.

Purebreds are not at all important, unless you're trying to sell hatching eggs or chicks. Even then there's ways around it!
I have a mixed breed flock. Mixed breeds often add color, variety, and fun to an every day flock. They can be surprising, with large combs or white feathers popping out if nowhere! You can even sex link your chickens (black sex links are in demand) by breeding barred hens to non-barred roosters.

If you want to sell chicks or hatching eggs, you still can. Just price reasonably and oversell your product. Make them sound like three thousanf tons of gold.

The reason I was asking about the roosters mates with different breeds is bc one of my roosters doesn't mate AT ALL!! The other does but I never see him on my small chicken.

How many roosters do you have? How many hens? Post a picture of the rooster that doesn't breed. How old is he?
