Roosters

That might depend on the rooster. Some roos are loud, some aren't. Some are constant crowers, some aren't.

Gonna just have ta see what you end up with. I'd say the crow is louder than the egg song. It's intended to be loud and challenging to other roosters.

There will be only one top rooster around here and I will not be challenged. Haha. It so funny to watch the hens bow to my Bullmastiff. I think they think that SHE is the rooster right now.

The 2 that I am keeping an eye on right now due to there bright combs and wattles are a SS and a BA. Which I have read that both tend to be on the less aggressive side. And they are being hand raised by me so I don't foresee any flogging towards me.

Ha. Yeah, I don't think I will mind the sound during the day as long as it doesn't start too early.
Great name! That's the main reason I got the ladies.

I've had 6 Jersey Giant roos so far....not one was aggressive, all were calm. My grandaughters (age 6 and 9) would go in the pen with 5 of the roos and feed them bread, never a problem.

The other thing I've noticed is that they were my less frequent crowers and never hit those high notes that make you cringe, and were less loud than most.

I have several roos-----2 BR cross, 2 EEs, 2 NNs, 2 silkies, and 1 SG---------and I love them all. I only have one that is people "agressive"-----my BBS silkie. He's so small that when he is "attacking" it's kind of cute. I named him "The Gestapo".

I have a feeling from what I've read that the BA I'm thinking might be a roo is actually a JG due to the Yellow feet. The rest have pinkish/white bottoms of their feet.

I love both of my roosters so much!

They are strange in that they have a co-spouse arrangement and work together to take care of the girls.

My dominate rooster - Baba tends to take care of all the protection aspects of things. Sounding alarms, pushing girls back into line etc.

While my submissive rooster - Pirate seems only interested in breeding with the girls and is fine with Baba doing almost 100% of the crowing and bossing around.

They do start crowing early - but I sleep right through it. They do crow all day - but I love to hear it. Makes me smile.

I know it is weird - but I really enjoy them.

One note I will mention is that Baba does like to peck or leg spur my husband if he isn't watchful while out in the yard. However, my husband just picks him up and carries him around for awhile until he calms down. He is much less "aggressive" with me. This could be because I spend more time feeding, petting and caring for him. While, perhaps Baba sees my husband as competition for the girl's affections...

I probably wouldn't recommend roosters around children - but there are always exceptions.

I had a standard Cochin Bantam that was VERY quiet. He crowed very seldomly. I think it really depends on the breed. Now, my very large rooster now, Big Papa, crows his little head off!! But I love hearing it (my father in law not so much when he visits lol). So it does depend on the breed. Good luck in your search! I have some roos for sale.....
