Here's my dilemma.....I just recently built my hens a new 6X6 coop. More room for them since the first one I had was too small. My problem that I've ran into is they are wanting to roost in the nesting boxes. The roosting pole I have set up for them is taller than the nesting boxes(which is what I've read they should be). What am I doing wrong/what can I do to get them to not sleep in the nesting boxes. Getting tired of cleaning up poop from the nesting boxes. I did try setting them up on the roosting pole one night. I have 3 ISA browns, and 2 barred rocks. Thanks for your suggestions.

What you're doing it great. Keep putting them up there. It will take a few times but they'll get it if they can get there easily on their own.

Chicken don't like change so it throws 'em off. Give the girls time to adjust.

You could also try covering the boxes w/ a slanted board but, meh, it's more fun to put them to bed. :)
