Roosting?

I'm finding the comments quite interesting. I have 10 week old chickens - and they have 2 roosts inside their coop; one is only 4-5 inches off the floor and the other is about 3 feet up (too high right now - hopefully they will grow into it). My question is: they have a spot inside the coop, yet they insist on roosting on the edge of the door to their coop - a piece of 1/2" plywood. Why would they roost outside on an uncomfortable thin board when they have all sorts of room inside the coop?

Chickens will be...chickens. mine finally started roosting on their own. My younger two still huddle together in a nest, but I am sure, when they are ready, they will roost. We have two roosts, one is about 1.5 ft high and the other is 3.5 ft high. This gives them the option and plenty of space.

My 3 mo. old chicks huddle together in one corner of the coop at night rather than roosting on the bars. I was wondering if this was "normal" behavior, so reading the comments posted made me feel like it's ok. I guess they will roost eventually. I do see them on the bars during the day occasionally, so I know they have no problem getting up there. I might try putting a log on the coop floor as suggested and see if they want to perch on it at night until they are ready for "the big girl" roosting bars! Thanks for the comments and suggestions.
