Roosts--- how high should they be???

My flock loves the two ladder roosts I had built for them. I think it's kinda fun to see who is sleeping on which rung, and when they change ladders sometimes. I also have a slew of chickens which roost in the rafters of the coop (which used to be an old, dilapidated, 3-sided garage before its new life as a secure coop).

The bigger birds use the rungs to hop as high as they have status and the less heavy chickens fly to the rafters.

I have all standard size breeds and they like their roosts the higher the better! I have two pine branches that are 3 feet high and one branch that is three and a half feet high. But for my old hen that couldn't fly all that well when she was molting, I had a little pine roost that was just 8 inches off the ground for her to hop up on in the far corner. She still sleeps there even though she is far over her molt. I guess she likes not having to share!

i suppose this might depend on the breed and i havs BO, SW, AA, and also a belgian D'uccle that can fly like any song bird  and my poor cochin who can hardley get off the ground. Where is the happy medium??? Also what are your guy's thoughts on differing height perches----- my friend has 5 chickens and the highest roost only fits 2 and they are constantly squabbling over it....
thanks!!!

I have six pullets and one hen my roost is about 2 1/2' up and all same level so they won't fight for the top but they use the window seal that is about 8" higher than that lol
