roosts in brooder

How long is it OK to not have roosts in the brooder? Will it somehow hurt the developing chicks if roosta are not provided?

I put one in there early and see who tried it out first.
If one wasn't in place, and the chicks tried to roost on the edge of their bedding box, then I add one then.
