ROOSTS--Is round 2" dowel better than a 2x4?

I used an old hand railing. It was 4" wide and the ends were already rounded. Sanded the varnish off, and it works great. My 9 week old girls love it.

Right, they are much more comfortable on a 2x4 with the 4" side up. They don't like to hang on to a rod, as many other birds do.
