How old do the chicks tend to be when they start useing roosts? Do they NEED roosts? Thanks!

Chicks will usually start roosting at the 6 week mark. I would say they DO NEED roosts to prevent mites and because its a natural thing for them to do.

And they lovee em!! lol

Yeah...they need roosts. They get really annoying about roosting if you dont give them one. And, its just what they do.

Ok, thanks guys! Will get them roosts....

Mine will roost as soon as they've been able to hop on it. So a roost stick about four inches above the brooder floor is in use at about 1
week old.

Ok, thank you! Im hlgetting two new chicks on thursday, and dont know how old they are, so they will probably need one.

Enjoy your new feathered friends! Mine like to play musical roosts. Up and down, and rearrange order. Funny to watch. Need to be next to a particular friend.

I give mine a variety of roosts. WHat ever is handy. Branches, or flat wood 3-4 inches wide when adult. The size of the roost sort of grows with the birds! LOL
