Rose Comb Legbar Thread

Quote: I think that what you are saying is that because the Rose Comb Cream Legbars have 2 copies of recessive single comb and no copies of dominant pea comb on one chromosome, plus the 2 dominant rose comb on a different chromosome, they can have a hybrid rose comb/single comb and this is what FMP is seeing when he see the elevated blade in some of his project birds even if his birds are homozygous (have 2 copies) for rose comb. Perhaps I misunderstand your statement?

To clarify, All rose comb birds (Hamburgs, Wyandottes, Rose Comb LB Leghorns etc) by default are p/p (single comb) on chromosome 1 and R/R on chromosome 7. So if my reading of your statement is correct, then by logic, all breeds with rose combs should have the hybrid single/rose comb--but they don't and shouldn't becasue the single is recessive.

My experience is that when there is one copy of the Rose Comb you will get a funky hybrid rose comb that is elevated up on top of a blade not hugged close to the head like you see with 2 copies, just like FMP has described. The single comb expression on chromosome 1 doesn't factor in, its just the R/R or R/r status on chromosome 7.

Forgive me if I misunderstood what you are saying! Perhaps you were saying that even though the rose combs are homozygous for both single (on chromo 1) and rose comb (on chomo 7), that the rose comb is dominant to the single comb and thus you will not see the expression of the homozygous single even though there are 2 copies on chromosome 1 (which is the opposite of what I was thinking you were saying).

Maybe I should try again in Russian!

what I was trying to explain to him when he said, I see some of the single comb on these birds, I was, well you will ALWAYS have the single comb genes inthere(p+/p+ along with R/R) what he is seeing is just the effect of breeding heterozygous Rosecombs to single combs, after a few generations it will produce weird looking genes, but the first two generations should be Indistinguishable from homozygous R/R

what this means? that while F1s of R/R p+/p+ mated to r+/r+ p+/+ will remain Indistinguishable from parent pure R/R all the way to the 3rd cross to r+/r+ p+/p+ birds to start seeing a difference in size and shape of the original rose comb.. so this is what FlyingMonkey is seeing..

I go through this sometimes. I don't speak Russian either (and am not smart enough to do it anyway like Nicalandia lol).. I understand how you feel though. For me it is more like talking to Charlie Brown's parents. Stress, not enough sleep! not enough raw whole (green) food...

I sound like my grannie.. turns out those grandmas know what they're talking about. I'm just going to *try* not to stare at the incubator allll night for the easter hatch...(Hope you feel better soon!)

Oh...no I didn't get the drill. But I do now. I am sure to overuse this new trick.

I received news from the Main Boss of this forum that I was part of the top 0.1% group that helps the most around here, based on "Ovations" I was told that, that was a 10th of a percent, and I was... well thats Awesome.. but I dont even get rated most of the time when I post, and I was 0.1 is good and dandy, but why stop there? I want to be part of the exclusive 0.01% group... maybe I'll get there by years end...if I help even more around here

Oh I see, yeah that might very well make a big difference. A lot of people, particularly new people, might not realize!
