Rose growers thread!

I love roses as well..My birthday flowe is the rose..lol..We just moved into a house(renting) and the owner has roses all around the property..And some bulb's mixed in..Daffodils,hyacinths,and some white flowers I think they are snow drops or something to that effect..Anyway, I can't wait for them to start puttin on the blooms..I'm interested to see what varieties I have..Dh bought me a white rose I'm hoping to turn into a rose tree..My Uncle gives his roses a Sprite every once in awhile..And his roses has some HUGE blooms..I've never seen roses bloom like that..Anyway, glad to find other rose lovers out there..

I throw the chicken poop/shavings from the coop around the base of my roses in late winter, and they grow into a jungle by spring. I wish my camera worked, Id take a picture of my 2 roses right now. They are about 8 foot tall and just as wide, and just covered with roses.

I have always had roses, ever since my dad and I planted them when I was about 5. That makes 50+ years now. My favorite is a lovely pink hybrid tea named "Sweet Surrender" which has the most heavenly fragrance I've ever smelled. "Double Delight" is my next favorite for fragrance. My problem is....my full sun rose garden is only about 15 ft. from the river and no matter how often I spray, I'm losing the war on black spot. I've lost several bushes over the years to that and vowed not to buy any more to replace them until I have something that will actually work on this nasty disease. Can anyone recommend what to do in my high humidity area?

That is exactly why I got the roses that I did. Absolutely no blackspot, none, nada. You should try them, I think youd love them. Ive never sprayed them for anything.

anyone want to share pics of their roses? Or anything blooming for that matter,

Beautiful roses....they look so great!! Mine are still under snow as it is just now melting away here in South Dakota,,,I had heard the coffee grounds before but never had great luck, maybe not enough?? Sprite, now that is interesting, and well worth a try and not an expensive one either.....

What a great idea about the coffee grounds. Do you need to do anything with them or justsprinkle them right on?

I can't wait to get mine! Abraham Darby was one of the four I ordered. Do you have them planted in threes like they recommend? I just got one of each variety for now, if they do well I will get more maybe! Gertrude Jekyll is on my second order list!

For anyone who ordered from David Austin, how long did it take from planting the bare root roses, to getting blooms? One, two seasons?

I didn't plant in threes, as I have a mixed border thing going on. AD gets HUGE down here in the south where I live. I like to leave a lot of "air space" around my roses to help prevent disease. I just moved them from my last house in the start of 2009. This year they should start to look really nice again.

this pic was taken last august, right now they are sticks with a few leaves starting to sprout, cant wait for roses, I need more english ones...anyone know the best online source? I have the catalog from DA, but seems pretty $$$ compared to even nurseries when I can find them that is.

Omg that Mary Rose it to die for! And what healthy plants! The only things blooming here yet are snowdrops, crocus, and hellebores. Nothing exiting. I can't wait for the roses, iris, lilies, and so on and so on!

Random question but for anyone who has ordered bare root roses...how long did it take for them to bloom? Did they bloom the first season planted? The next?
