Roses are Finally Blooming Here (pics)

I'm in the mtns at 2000 feet--figs will grow three hours south of me at my former house, but I cant get them to grow here, completely different planting zone. I don't think I've ever seen bougainvillea anywhere, always thought of it as a tropical flower. We get to 0 degrees in winter sometimes.

I had a couple of bougs and got rid of them. Very very thorny. Every year when I roam around Lowes and I see them again, Im so tempted to try again, but those thorns deter me, and they are tender; I lose them here. Roses have thorns, too, but are hardy.

It's hard to grow roses at my place, nowhere near enough full sun. Well, I have really no full sun at all. Most of them here are ones from my grandmother's farm, bloom once and that's it for the year. This Minnehaha climber was here when we arrived and has to be cut back every year or it would pull the deck off the house with the weight. I love it, but it will be here about three weeks then gone. I've lost many rose plants, though, and wont get anymore. Would love to move to where I could really grow some nice shrub roses.
