So recently I was trying to think of ways to rotate eggs better in the incubator. Rotating every single one by hand was a pain, and also there's some risk also because I'm clumsy. Then I thought, why not just keep them in the egg carton itself inside the incubator and turn it upside up or upside down depending?

Does it matter if they are rotated this way compared to normal rotating? It would seem that rotating them this way might work but its putting a lot of emphasis with putting them either straight up or straight down instead of rotating them on the sides, which is normal and in nature. Is there a problem with doing it this way?

Don’t rotate eggs with pointy end facing up.

What kind of incubator do you have?

Tilting the egg carton from side to side is fine but not up and down. The carton would have to be cardboard material not foam. However I’ve never tried it myself.

OK thanks.

Although why not foam, but cardboard is OK?

Actually it might have been the other way around. I apologize. Styrofoam yes. Cardboard no. But hopefully someone can chime in and verify. If you search BYC there’s tons of threads on this 😊

A closed carton?
End to end 180° turning is not the way to go, IMO.
Even an open carton can interfere with air circulation, and thus heat distribution.
