Rouen Duck thread

I love Rouens! All I have are drakes and they are the best!!!! One of my drakes named raffe has feathers on his legs! I would like to breed him to see what type of ducklings he'd make but don't want to get like 15 hens since I have 4 drakes and no hens. Here are some pics!!!! ♡

What beautiful boys!!! Yes the feathers on the legs do happen with any duck breed. I forget why, some small genetic mutation I think. I don't think it's a guarantee that the babies will have it. If you do a quick search on the forum you might be able to find the thread with all the information on it.

Before their 'adult' plumage and after. The female who's name is 'gimpey' and the male was 'gimpey's mate'.
We had these 2 for about a year this summer and they would be turning 2... well this summer they had decided to stay in the pond with the one male mallard... we had a coyote issue which we never had before, dug our deceased dog up, and managed to nab the male... the female in the spring time started this severe limp.. so I had just recently at they time taken a F&W runner female to the vet for a broken leg and so I assumed thats what she had for different reasons and crated her for awhile, she looked good and she took off to the pond as fast as a gimey duck could! And the male who was still around would come up the yard every morning make sure the coast was clear and go back for her and back and fourth he would go until she made it to the house to eat... SO now she is forced to stay in the pen with everyone with her new mallard mate who cares for her as a duck would..

She now looks 'straggly' and I hope she looks better after this moult.. I feel bad for her... I got another male rouen but it just isnt the same!

I'm so sorry about your loss. I do love how the mallard cares for her though. Does she still limp?

Thanks..Yes she does. I still have no idea how she managed it but she wants to hatch babies so bad! In the picture of the metal bin she was sitting on a nest which she then moved over to by our oil bin that we have turned into a coal holder... for some reason she loves having her nest on the rocks which will never work... she will learn one day. She is very sweet and talks to you by yelling as loud as she can haha.

Oh my knowing that she still limps definitely brings my Pekin duck Cheese to mind. She has a permanent limp too and will yell as loud as possible. I always tell her to use her inside voice but that never seems to work lol. Mine went broody too although she put her nest in grass and not rocks. Actually her eggs are almost ready to hatch in the incubator. She was attacked by my dog and wouldn't take her eggs back so I have them now. If you wouldn't mind ducklings or could find them other homes i'd say let her try and hatch some. Otherwise she might not break from her broodiness. Thanks for sharing your story of Gimpey and I can't wait to here more stories of her.

I normally give the eggs to my Scovy Yacky who will hatch them ( she just hatched 5 mallards but we lost 2) and I have a couple in the bator that where due later then the mallard eggs. So I will see what happens.
And its great knowing that someone other then I cared about her story haha! I will keep updates :)

Oh I see. You should leave some with Gimpey and see what happens. Yes please give updates on her. I would love to hear how she's doing. Like I said I have a duck who is like Gimpey so I know how special she must be to you.
