Oh I see. You should leave some with Gimpey and see what happens. Yes please give updates on her. I would love to hear how she's doing. Like I said I have a duck who is like Gimpey so I know how special she must be to you.
She's sitting only at night, which worried me, but my friend says her Rouen did the same thing and they all hatched! I don't know, we'll seeThat's a huge nest. Is she sitting on them at all?
That's how they start is they will sit only at night, however if she adds more to the nest she might just be hoarding them since she wouldn't be able to properly sit on them with them all covered. But just keep an eye on her and if she does start to sit during the day I would take some eggs out of the nest, especially if this is her first time. You don't want her to feel overwhelmed with a bunch of babies as she could either try to kill them or will abandon them and you will have to take over. Please keep me updated on her progress and let me know what happens. She's sitting only at night, which worried me, but my friend says her Rouen did the same thing and they all hatched! I will see if she manother nest now that she is in the pen with everyone. I will try for some pics of her and her mallard mate. When another male tries to mount her he gets all huffy and puffy and attacks them. Its amazing how he is attached to her! I will deff. keep updates. You should post a pic of yours even if its not a rouen.![]()
I will, thank you. Yeah, I thought of taking some out, that's just sooo many!!! I'm overwhelmed, so I imagine she will be too, lol thanks againThat's how they start is they will sit only at night, however if she adds more to the nest she might just be hoarding them since she wouldn't be able to properly sit on them with them all covered. Sure no problem. Just keep an eye on her. If she doesn't sit during the day within a week I'd take a couple out and see if that helps her.I will, thank you. Yeah, I thought of taking some out, that's just sooo many!!! I'm overwhelmed, so I imagine she will be too, lol thanks again
I bet that mallard thinks that she's a mallard and is probably very protective since to him she is hurt and can't fly. I wonder if he will leave her for the winter or not. Wild birds pair up and that's it they aren't like domestics where they have to have like 3 to 4 females per drake. What a lucky lady she is to of found such a great ducky man. I do have some pics of her but nothing since after my dog attacked her and she healed up fully. But I will try to find a recent pic of Cheese.![]()
here she is. This was taken during her recovery but you can't see any damage in this picture so I figured i'd use this one.![]()
