I can only imagine how stressful it must be. Especially because when they are sitting you can't control everything as compared to a bator.
Yes and that was my 1st real broody hen. She did great though and is being wonderful mother. I am hoping by Mon the rouen decides she wants to sit. Otherwise I will toss 10 more eggs in bator. Just had a quinkidink with the bator hatch 21 guineas early LOL.

Mon She will be at 10 eggs hope she wants to be mama. I could use a break from the batorring. But if not I will cook em myself and get a weeks worth of chicken eggs to add to them the next week. Same amount of electric so why not fill er up.

Maybe with some more eggs in their she will want to sit. Wow congrats on your early hatch.

back when they were almost a month old and playing outside for the first time. They had to go back into the brooder that evening.

At what age do you begin to determine the sex of the duck?

The earliest you can sex them is at 4-5 weeks old by their voice. In between the peeps you will either hear a loud distinct quack or a low raspy wack. I say wack because its not quite a quack they make. Its like they have a sore throat and can't quite quack.

The circled red area helps to show the first signs of your boys and girls. The boys will get this white coloring up the wings first and some females tips will change colors too so watch and see if the coloring just keeps creeping up if so then that means male if not then female.

Don't know if I have asked this before or not. Anyone ever have a hen go broody and how many eggs do they wait for to start sitting. My female is rather large and tomorrow her nest will be up to 10 eggs. Thinking about batoring them myself but would be great if she'd sit tomorrow.
