Any advice appreciated I have a1 year old female rouen duck she started breathing heavily and couldn't quack so we brought her inside after about 24 hours of it not getting better we then took her to an emergency vet and they stated she was egg bound so they removed the egg and sent us home with pain meds. After a couple days was told she would get back to normal but she didn't I called them back told me that she was just still in pain and her quack would come back we held off for about a week still breathing heavy so decided to take her to another vet about an hour away and that's when we were told she prob had pneumonia because xrays showed her lungs cloudy so they weren't sure without other testing if pneumonia or aspergillos so I now have antibodies for both pneumonia and fungus just in case if mold spore exposure but she is leaning more to pneumonia have a really hard time getting her to take the pills and she really hasn't improved much in 3 days her breathing sometimes gets scary so we put her in steam bath any suggestions on something else I can do to help my girl

Welcome To BYC

I'm sorry to hear about your Duck.

Hopefully others can chime in with support or suggestions.
@Miss Lydia @ruthhope

You mention she was eggbound and the egg was removed. Has she laid since then? Have you given extra calcium to help her in case she's got another egg coming or is having trouble laying?

I'd get extra calcium into her. For Ducks, I think most use Calcium Gluconate (see this thread for product and dosing).

Hopefully the medications will kick in and help her breathing.
If you are struggling to get meds into her, the article below may be helpful.

Thank you so much when we took her on Monday to the last vet they checked her and no egg but no she hadn't layed any since then I did buy some oyster shell I'm gonna try to see if she'll eat that and I'll start that tonight for her. I will definately check out the article cause she's definately finicky with her eating and I'm very nervous to stick anything down her throat for fear of getting it in her windpipe but thank you so much for the reply and I'll check out the article ASAP

Watched the video great instructions on what to do thanks again

I would inquire of the vet if there is liquid form of the antibiotic as it is much easier to give through a narrow plastic syringe down the side of the tongue. I have never successfully got tablets into a duck, even cut into quarters.

I certainly would use calcium gluconate if she is not laying normally to try and prevent her again being egg bound.

Thank you I will check to see if the vet can give that to me in liquid and I'll also check with tractor supply to see if they have the calcium in the store thanks so much for the input

I am going to tag @Jenbirdee she has used Oxine ah and Silver to nebulize her Runner when she was sick and she can give you info.

TSC usually has Calcium Gluconate it is the best for getting an egg moving.
I hope you can get your Rouen over this I can tell by all you have done so far you love her.

if it is aspergillus, giving her breathing treatments with a small nebulizer attached to a small dog crate and covered with towels, 30 minutes three times a day fill the nebulizer with oxine ah , but do not use the activator with the oxine AH, instead mix 2 tablespoons of the liquid oxine ah with 22 ounces of water, and use some of that each time to fill your nebulizer. I had two ducks with aspergillosis, and when I started using the nebulizer this way, they already sounded better after the first day of treatment., but you need to continue treatment at least two weeks possibly four weeks.
I did mine about one week of three times a day and then I switched it two times a day because I just couldn’t do the three times a day then after a couple more weeks of two times a day, I switched to using colloidal silver in the nebulizers.
Both ducks got better, but I still give them an occasional treatment to help keep it at bay.
You see, the oxine ah kills the mold and gives the duck time for its immune system to destroy the disease.
So I also gave my ducks extra vitamins, such as rooster booster poultry cell.

Ok where could I get a nebulizer and the oxine ah you are referring to in not sure if it's the aspergillos or pneumonia the vet gave me both antibiotics for each thing right now we are just putting her in bathroom with steam a few times a day when it gets harder for her to breathe
