So, I used to have 4 pekin ducks around 2015 that sadly only made it to see 2018. 4 ducks, 3 different predators. I raised them from ducklings and was getting eggs from the 2 females I ended having. Mr. Bubbles, Apollo, Pax, & Swerve. A little scared of me, but still very sweet and stubborn. They would come running at the sound of me hitting the bottom of their food pan like a tambourine and follow me — quacking — the entire way back to their duck house when it was bedtime.

Eventually when I started college, it seemed like they started to get picked off. Pax and Swerve both at the same time by coyotes; in broad daylight, no less. Apollo by either a bobcat or fox around dusk and Mr. Bubbles by a raccoon during the night after he refused to get out of the neighbor’s pond when called for.

i still miss them, i was really hoping i’d still have them.

anyways, last Monday i was at TSC getting chicken food and they had some assorted ducklings left over and selling them for a $1 each. So....I went to TSC for feed and came back with more responsibility, haha.

my guess is they were already close to a week old when i bought them, so they should be 2 weeks and some odd days as of 9/11.

the point of this thread is to document barbosa, drago, quackerton, & pidge’s growth and my second go at raising ducks. hopefully i end up with 3 females and 1 male this time.

Wow.

I better not watch or I'll be tempted to go get more myself, when I already have too many.

This is a good project! And $1 each?!

Jeez that is a great price, simply from people not understanding how awesome peking ducklings are.

Well I'm not the expert here. But it does look like those are pekings.

Forgot to ask...

Did they ever figure out how to drink through the holes? XD XD XD

yeah, i think all of them are pekins except for one. it has a pale/light pinkish bill, someone said it was a hybrid white layer. i got them out of the assorted duck bin, so what i got is what i got.
as for the price, i think it was a combination of trying to get rid of them because the ducklings had already been there for over a week and my dad being good friends with one of the workers.

i honestly should’ve gotten more than just 4. there was still close to 10 ducklings left in the bin

oh! lmao, yeah, they eventually figured it out. i had to stick their head through it and have their bill touch the water for them to finally understand.

Another thing that's also funny is you show them a picture of peas, like on the outside of a can. And you can watch them peck at it, trying to figure it out.

Funny.
