Round two of sour crop

I'm sorry to hear that.

It really sucks , she was a really good chicken and a awesome layer. I just don't get how I got rid of the sour crop the first time and she was back to normal for a week then it comes back worse...

When I have one die and I want to find out more, I perform an informal investigation, looking at the internal organs, reproductive system, etc.
I understand that it's hard for some people to do that, but sometimes it will help reveal what may have been going on.
An alternative is to utilize your state lab and have a professional necropsy where you will get a report of the findings.

I've done that before when I had one drop dead outta nowhere and it turned out she had a enlarged liver and I did find out what happened and it was pretty cool to know but this time I don't want to send Penny off I'm more attached because she's one of my original flock so I want her to stay here so she's on the hill overlooking the farm and her friends

I’m so sorry to hear of your loss. I am going through the same thing with my hen, also an isa brown named Penny. Very similar scenario. I have been treating her with OTC yeast infection medication for a really bad case of sour crop. She was starting to improve and now is very lethargic today. Not eating much, and when she does drink, her crop swells up like a balloon. The bubbling/sloshy noises are present, especially if she tries to get away from me when I try to give her medicine. Not sure what to do for her as I believe she isn’t going to make it very long. She’s also very bony and seems to have lost a lot of weight. She also has running droppings. I tried making her a crop bra thinking it had to do with maybe pendulous crop. I ordered nystatin to try but I’m not sure if that’ll help. I assume she has some other issues going on since she hasn’t laid an egg in over 3-4 months.

Oh no I'm sorry to hear that! I didn't think my case was that bad and my Penny's crop wasn't that big even on the last few days but she stopped eating and drinking. When I cleaned out my hospital area after she passed I found some runny poop I just wonder if she had something else but I kinda think not . I did everything i read to do and I thought it wasn't going to turn out lile it did since articles and vids say it was a easy fix and since i caught it early she was going to be fine but thats not what happened and i feel terrible about it. I'm not sure what else you could do but maybe if that nystatin gets there in time it could help I really hope it does! I know there is the vet but for me I couldn't afford it but maybe could be a option for your penny ?

Maybe even longer since she stopped laying over the winter and never started back up. She started showing signs of vent gleet and then once I started noticing how bad her crop looked, I wasn’t sure what was going on. It wasn’t until I went back through some threads about sour crop that I realized what I was dealing with. I feel bad I didn’t figure it out sooner.. Her crop is so large and squishy and nothing seems to help. I feel so bad that she’s lost weight. She still wants to go out and forage, though she moves very slowly and doesn’t eat much. Im hoping the nystatin gets here in time. She very much could have an underlying condition since she’s 4 and isa browns don’t live very long

Give the yeast medication 2X a day for 7 days.

If she's not laid an egg in several months, you may are probably correct that something else is going on. Most of the time a crop that is slow and not emptying is a symptom of an underlying condition.

Do the best you can, work on hydration, see if she will eat a little wet soupy feed, give the meds. Let her move about doing her normal hen things unless she's getting picked on.

She ate a little bit yesterday and kinda foraged, but then really started to slow down in the evening. She made it through the night but she is completely uninterested in eating or drinking. I tried to syringe feed her some molasses last night. I tried poultry cell in water and mashed feed this morning. She’s just sitting in the classic “sick chicken” stance in her hospital crate. Unfortunately I think today will be her last day with us.. it’s clear whatever is going on is probably far more severe than just sour crop. Her crop still feels doughy and I can feel tiny particles that haven’t gone down. Not as much liquid, but her water intake has decreased.

So it happened again but with my other isa brown pumpkin. A good week after Penny passed then Pumpkin came down with sour crop too its really strange it happened to both my isa browns and at in or around the start of their 3ed year. So I treated pumpkin with thr same woman's yeast cream I did Penny and did it for a extra day so 8 in total there was some change but her crop still hasn't gone back to normal and now she's going in one of the nest boxes and laying down and crapping in the box. She does drink water and eat a little here and there. But yeah idk what to do for her now I figure at 3 years isa browns just fall apart even if they are well taken care of ...
