Round up ready corn?

easy alternative is to switch from corn that is going to skyrocket in price to soaked or cooked rice. Hens do better on it anyways. It is also cheaper

Polished rice contains about 90% of the Metabolizable Energy compared to US #2 Yellow Corn. So on a pound:pound basis the rice should cost 90% of corn.

Last Friday on the Chicago Board of Trade corn closed at $8.84/cwt. and rice at $14.35/cwt. That equates to $2.63/1000 calories for corn and $4.80/1000 calories for Rice. Based on this comparison substituting rice for corn is not economically sound.

Lets see. I pay 16.00 for a 50 lb bag of corn up against 9.00 for the same size bulk rice. Sounds cheaper to me.

If your customers want you to go organic, or not use GMOs, or only feed your hens from your hand, or apply gold leaf to each egg... see if they are willing and really committed to pay the price increases you'll need to cover the expense of production. Our eggs will go for $3/doz, and could go for $4/doz if we certified organic, but that doesn't cover our increased production costs (and hassle), so we're not going that way.

Of course, we have a hobby operation, so we're just looking to cover the cost of feed for our pets by selling to some friends and neighbors.
