I got two Royal Palm eggsfrom a local farmer friend today! It'll be in my first hatch and my first turkeys. I hope they both hatch!

A while ago I started a thread looking for a picture of a royal palm that matched the standard of perfection, since I had never seen one. I would love to see one here. The standard clearly states that there should be two black bands on the white tail. Everybody has RPs with the terminal black band, but no one seems to breed them with the band at the end of the primary tail coverts. If I remeber correctly, lack of both bands should disqualify the RP, but they seem to win awards at fairs without them.

The original thread is

My tom only has one band as well. I don't have a real good picture of him. This picture was taken with his hen and their brood while they were still very protective. I'll try to get a better one. Unfortunately, his feathers are stained and worn right now. I hope he molts soon.

Nope, that shows the terminal band and the back feathers. The second band might get obscured by the back feathers when displaying, but should be very obvious as two black bands on the tail when the fan is down. In the second picture, the second bird from the right is facing away, and you can clearly see a single band on the tail. There should be a second band halfway down. At some point, this appears to have been bred out of Royal Palms, despite the SOP. Or did it ever actually exist?....

I just checked the 2010 Standard and the wording and illustrations are the same as you said in the 2001 edition.
