Royal Palm Tumor excision GRAPHIC

Our Royal Palm Tom was saved by a mere beak tip today. This ugly mass was removed by a maestro (Dr. D. Leach, DVM, Columbia, MO):

Bubba, that's an excellent question. However, though we did get photos of the complete procedure - I'm now kicking myself for not bringing the tumor home and using the talents of the excellent folks here and over on EZBYC to find a pathologist so we could mail off the specimen (chondrosarcomas are rare in humans and almost unknown in turkeys).

I'd guess the tumor was somewhere between 15-30 grams (bony - cartilage derived tumor).

Was so pleased that the margins were clean and there was no involvement of the beak itself that I got too relaxed and inattentive. Though having the Avian Pathologist at MU tell Dr. Leach to just throw it in the trash instead of sending it over, and carrying out our woozy, 24lb., Screamer bird was plenty at the time.

Ivan, WOW, I hope he is doing ok now!!!!
I have a question for you, The vet that you took him to, is it by the chance the Animal Zoo - off of Boone Industrial Drive here in Columbia? I work real close and just happened to see her name on the sign. Was also wondering if this is a place I can take my Mr. Meany into get checked out. I think he has a broken leg or something.

SilkieChicken, sorry for the long wait, but I feared jinxing the cure by crowing about how great he was doing.

These are shots I took today for the vet to look at tomorrow when we take our `Road rescue' kitten in for a scheduled appointment.

NU2ChixinMO, Yes, she will see Chooks, that's what her degree is in: Sorry for the long wait but I hardly ever check in, or just skim when working (out of contract, now! No more winnowing apart intertwined dependencies for this clown - for a while...)
