Sorry...rant:
I recently moved to the country from suburbia where chickens were not allowed. I had never known anyone who had chickens. I was so excited to get my chickens, I have wanted them for a long time and to tell the truth...chickens were one of the main reasons we moved!

So my suburban "friends" apparently can't even TRY to not be rude about my chickens, making sarcastic comments almost every time I talk to them. My "best friend" today ASKED me about my chickens (I don't bring them up to her!) and I told her about my plans to expand my run. She said sarcastically "well, I guess it's good to have goals".

I don't even want to go on facebook anymore because of the ridicule...geez...I'm 37!!!

It's been almost 2 months since I've moved and I think I've put up with about enough. They can all go jump in a lake, I love my chickens!!!

Good for you! Be a rebel...we're happier! Some folks just are missing out on one of the best things there is. My best friend told me, "Oh, no, dont get chickens! They smell so bad". Well, she has changed her tune and loves them now, after being inside my non-malodorous coop and petting my sweet girls.

I know your story SO WELL. At this point it's yet another way that I seperate real friends from plastic.... My extended family is really supportive so I know they really love us whether they would have chickens or not. But all the people that worked with in high rise buildings and I'm still in touch with.... slowly dropping off the map.... When I feel like I need people who get it... Ah yes, I'm here at BYC....

awww, come be my friend on FB. My friends post pictures of their eggs and we send each other show chickens.

And WE like you just the way you are

Don't feel bad, I get the same thing from my MIL-wrinkling her nose at my chickens(just makes me want more).

Who cares! They make me happy and I love them.

I actually think expanding your run is an awesome goal!

Don't let cranky chicken haters bother you(they're just jealous)-I don't.

Awww, just ignore them. I think it's awesome that you're living your dream. You'll make little (or big) changes over time as you enjoy your new life in the country. And you'll also make new friends

Tell your suburbanite friends that you'll save some eggs for a few months for them, so that they'll be just like the ones you get from the store

Then tell them you're getting a goat or cow so you can have fresh milk. And tell them you'll cook it, save it for a few weeks and give it to them --- so it will be just like the stuff they get from the store

Shall I go on?

Just like the saying "The more people I meet the more I love my chickens."

I think we can all relate to the chicken haters. Most of them are the ones that are so selfish that the only thing they care about taking care of themselves, and caring for something else really wouldn't cross their minds.

We get a lot of this from my dads BUSINESS PARTNER. Making comments about our animals, how hick we are, and even makes comments concerning sexuality and living out in the country, if you catch my drift.

I think it's appauling that a grown man would act this way, he tells my dad to keep his women under control.

What I find hilarious about him is that it's not like he came from a particularly 'civilized' part of his home country, he's originally from Guyana..
