This Hurricane is going to be a bad one. Already up to a Cat 4 and they just said there's a good chance of it becoming a 5 after the sun gets up. I hope I have a home when I get back tomorrow, if the roads are passable.

Great thread - I'm loving reading as much info as I can as my roosters get older (the oldest 2 are 23 weeks) and hoping they stay the good roos that they are now. they have never been handled and are respectful of me so hoping it stays that way!

I hope yours stay good boys forever too. There’s nothing really good to say about the bad boys, as that has seemed to be my luck with my first go around. Like you, I read everything I could about raising roosters and dealing with possible bad ones and, as luck would have it, the majority of mine have been members of the “not so nice club.” However, the jury is still out on one. My problem is/was that I wanted my rooster(s) to be sweet like my hens, but I’ve resided myself to the fact that just isn’t going to happen. I wish you the best with yours.

And yes, Hurricane Michael is going to make landfall somewhere around Panama City, FL today.

Our thoughts and prayers are with you and your family and of course your chickens during and after this historic hurricane. I live in tornado alley here in Alabama and there’s one thing I respect...ALL aspects of Mother Nature. Keep safe.

I have wondered this myself and it stresses me just thinking about it. Surely what @roosterhavoc posted isn’t true. I kind of took that as a joke, but who in the world knows.

Now that I have 25 birds, previously just 4, I think I need to secure enough crates to semi-comfortably hold them in case we have to shelter-in-place. Problem is, I wouldn’t want to crate the birds every time we went under a tornado watch, but there usually isn’t enough time to get it all done once a tornado warning is issued. Of course our six horses are on their own in the pasture. I have thought about getting a 40’ container and burying it in a bank adjacent to our barn for an animal storm shelter, but money always puts a damper on my best thought out plans. Now this just gives me something else to worry about. But in the end, I do realize my human family takes precedence when all else fails.
