i have a 40 x 40 ft “free ranged” run, it is fences only to keep them in. I would like to know what can i put in this pen to keep them amused. Right now i have some stumps put together, a log and a tire filled with ashes. But what else could i put there for them to keep amused and happy

I would hang a cabbage head so that they have to jump to get it, this helped relieve boredom in my flock.

We put up a swing. It’s fun watching them learn to use it too.

It's a big space so you could put quite a lot of "junk" which chickens love to explore. Old pallets (nails covered or removed), crates, patio furniture, some branches, piles of leaves or hay, etc.

Don't use food as 'entertainment'.

They do love climbing and new things - having a designated area to dump lawn clippings or a compost corner can provide heaps of fun. Also, anything they can climb - like a hobby horse or wooden bench... you can easily turn a small pallet into a ramp or lash two large ones together for an a-frame.
