Run advice

The dust bath poll got me thinking. This is what the inside of my run is covered in. Should I add more dirt, sand, ? Or is it ok like this. I have 3 year old chickens and 16 chicks (teenagers).

or just put in a rubber feeder with diatomaceous earth for them to roll in...inside the coop.

Looks fine to me, as long as they have some spots of dirt they can dig down to to dust bathe. Even though I provide mine with a weather proof dust bath it doesn't completely stop them from making craters.

Chickens are creatures of the forest floor so wood chips, leaves, and other plant debris are a great environment for them.

If they can dig down to reach dirt when the want to -- mine are like mini-backhoes for digging -- then there's probably no need to add any dirt anywhere.
