Run near bird feeders. Disinfecting will make it ok?

Thanks Mac! The planned coop area is in the part of the yard where water stands in puddles after a rain. I plan to also build a concrete walkway next to the coop/run area that is above dirt level so we don't get our feet wet or muddy and I thought I would build up the run to match the height of the walkway. After our feral rooster lived so long with the wild birds I wasn't really worried but I read so many warnings that I thought I should do something. Why is hydrated lime more dangerous than bleach? I would have thought the other way around. Thanks very much for the info. Bluie

It's calcium hydroxide and is highly caustic. It will burn you on contact or damage your lungs if you inhale it. Like any strong acid or base you have to add it to water and not add water to it.

If there is no danger of fire and you have a torch that attaches to a portable propane tank, burn the ground underneath the feeder. The temperature is high enough to kill anything on the surface and a couple of inches down. Til it under then burn it again.
