Welcome from one newbie to another and hello from northern Massachusetts! This is an awesome group of folks!!Hi Folks - I’m newly retired, a new home owner, a new chick dad & a new member. My wife & I inherited a chicken coop enclosed by a 12’ x 12’ x 8’ protective run/shed. We purchase 6 (1 day old) chicks from a local Tractor Supply Store on March 3rd. All females ( 4 Golden Comets & 2 Black Sex Links). All our girls are doing fine in a brooder and I’ve been fixing up the coop & run in anticipation of getting them out there & comfortable when the time comes… I have noticed wet ground under the coop & around the run after rain events and have spread out #57 gravel over the surface in those wet areas. There is still a small area of dry dirt BUT most of the run is now gravel (but dry after a rain). Was this a poor choice? Or will the chickens be OK on a that surface? Thanks for any comments/suggestions.
