Azure stopped, and Vermilion crashed into him. The siblings fell in a heap.

"That was dumb," Vermilion said, getting to her feet.

"Yeah." Azure got to his feet and looked over at Jess. "So, you think my chances of winning her are nil?"

"Probably." Vermilion nodded.

Jess couldn't hear their conversation due to the chirping of the birds. She could see they were glancing over at her, though. She shrugged and scratched an itch on her face.

Jess didn't notice him until she looked up. She cocked her head and lifted her head higher, flicking her forelock out of her eyes.
