"He promised not to kill me." Garron knew that this was his last time he would see Piper, but even if she didn't like it, he would make sure that she would hear his side before they parted ways. A part of him really liked Piper, and wanted her to be his mate, but Garron realized that this was goodbye, however hard it was. "Bt that doesn't mean that he wouldn't scar me for life, or take my vision, or make me lame on one of my paws, or otherwise maim me."He looked away and sighed. "I'm sorry, Piper. But I can't live like this. I'm leaving Pinepack in the morning. Don't try to stop me." He couldn't bring himself to hear Piper's reply; just meeting her tonight was harder than he could have ever imagined. He turned and bolted into the woods, sprinting towards the densite. He raced ito the mouth of his den, and as he sank into his nest, he did something he'd never truly done in his life.
He cried.
(O_O
Piper watched him go not even trying to hold back her sobs. She collapsed on the forest floor, trying to make sense of her shattered world. She had just spent three years of her life trying to build a new home...trying to forget. Three days ago she had made her first friend...one who seemed to finally understand her. She also had regained her brother...who tries to make her a better wolf.
In three days, the life she had crafted for herself...was destroyed. The only friend she knew was leaving for good. Scar would try and help but he would never understand how much Garron had meant to her...how much he would always mean.
Always...
Piper didn't know how long she lay there under the stars...the moon smiling gently, almost sadly down upon her, making her pelt gleam like frost. She cried until no more tears could come...she howled to a moon who would never answer back...listening to the echo against the mountains return to her, cold and eerie.
Nothing could make her heart stop breaking.
There was no hope left in her
The next morning Piper woke stiffly in the clearing she had not left the night before. She took a shuddery breath and stood.
He didn't know how she would be able to move on...but she had to try for her brother. He was all she had left.
He wanted her to be successful...that was her new goal. She made up her mind to devote herself completely to learning what it took to be strong and quick and not at all clumsy. Pushing Garron out of her mind with one last sob, she headed back for a densite that would never again see her eat with Garron under her tree.
Scar was waiting for her. He nuzzled her and place his tail over her protectively, his eyes sad. He murmured words of comfort but Piper couldn't make them out. She closed her eyes.
Her sole purpose now was to become what she wasn't...
As Piper opened her eyes they were full of determination. "Scar...I want to go hunting. Teach me how to be strong."
