Hello, I have some young chicks, and today I took one out to play in grass (which I’ve done with all the other chicks, no issues) but this one made a break for it! I’m terrified. He’s hiding in the woods, we left out food and water and tried to catch him but he just retreated farther. Also, yesterday a 5 ft snake got into our brooder and stole a couple chicks, (we quickly renovated it and it’s now snake proof, and we killed the snake) but I know it’s got family out there, plus that little guys too young to stay warm all night!! Please help!! How can we catch him?!

This just happened to me this morning!! My chicks are 5 week olds. I brought the other chicks out in a wire dog crate, then started grabbing and picking them up so they would peep. The runaway heard them and came running back.
How old is your runaway?

Other option, I had a 3-4 month old pullet deep in the woods. She was gone for 4 days and I would see her, just couldn't catch her. Not even with a pole. I got 4 people together and we entered the woods. Closed in on her slowly until we could get her.

You could duck tape a broom to it to make to longer.

Can you see the chick?
Can you sneak up from behind it and get it to come back out of the woods?
Yes I can see it but it’s in a Bush so the branches get in the way! I can try, there’s also a bit of a clearing within the woods but the chick just wants to hang out in the Bush. I’ll try that! Thanks!

I’ll try this too! I’m just worried about leaving him overnight because he’s just so young, the other chicks have a heat lamp but I don’t want to put one out there because snakes! The snake yesterday was too scary!
