P.S. I'm a better pool keeper these days. This pic was a yr ago, when i was new to duck keeping & hygene. I thought ducks liked muddy water? Yes, but no dirty.

My f/w runners r 1yo now and in t/last 2-3 months they have gotten so light in color, they r almost all whie! Is this normal? When they molt, is a gradual or dramatic molt?? e.g. feathers everywhere, w/bald looking ducks?

I think my runner is almost as old as yours, and I was noticing how light she was getting too. I was wondering if she was just getting sun bleached myself. She's pretty pale too, but I can see a darker spot under her wings when she flaps them. I'm also waiting for our first big summer molt, I can't wait to collect some feathers!

Hey everyone! My beautiful black runner just hatched today! You guys have actually helped me though a lot of ups and downs of incubating my first eggs! Thank you!!

So sadly both my Fawn Runners turned out to be drakes :( and with three Rouen ducks and a rouen drake it seems the most logical to find my runners a new home instead of my rouen drake and a runner, three drakes to three hens would be to much for my girls. So sadly I won't participate in pics and such anymore but as a lover of runners I'm hoping one day I'll be able to get me some runners again :)

My chocolate hen hatched out seven eggs. Been three weeks now. Waiting to see what color and sex I have. Eat like crazy. Fingers crossed for some females.

Hi Smurfbrew, when they molt is it dramatic? What i mean is, do they lose a lot of feathers, will it be noticeable? I am waiting for mine to molt, i was hoping they would get new fawn feathers back in. My runners are broody nowo i dont think they will be molting anytime soon. Later gater!

Awh adorable black runner. Did u hatch it or did ur duck hatch it? Congrats!

P.S. my 2 f/w hens r broody, & their eggs r not fertile so i added some chicken eggs under them. I candled them a few days ago & was uncertain about one BO egg, i put a Q mark on it. The next day i saw my hen running w/it in her bill towards the pool, she dropped right before t/pool & broke it. It's amazing that she knew it was not viable. She still has the other developing eggs. Cool, huh?
