*~*Runner Duck Club*~*

Goodness. Zoe is such a great little swimmer, and Impa is doing well, but poor Ezri just can't get this floating business figured out!
The floating business is just a matter of fat and trapped air. None of the ducklings have much fat since they are growing so crazy fast. And they don't have feathers yet, but the ones with a little oil can trap a little air in their fuzz. As her oil gland clicks in , she will float better - in the meantime, she will have to tread water (good thing she's got great feet for that).

God there growing so fast

@misslydia the pond is a kids sand shell/pool ramp is around half a metre wide and not steep steps are made from wood 3 of each one about 3 inch high

I've been a member for a few months and never came across the Runner thread!! Here are a few of mine... The first one is Carson, a beautiful chestnut-chocolate.. the second is Jeb and Gertie at a few weeks old and the third is Malcolm in the tub, recovering from prolapsed penis... I started with runners and now have 10 runners, 6 Cayugas and 6 Anconas... not to mention the 14 little ducks... a pair of call ducks, 2 pairs of wood ducks, a trio of cinnamon teal and 5 Laysan Teal What fun!! I'm building a kiddie pool pond setup right now. I;m using one pool 55" x 12" deep and 2 smaller 40 x 7" deep that will cascade into the lager one... all set in a raised bed.. I may one day make a real pond but I think this will be great for the little flying ducks!!

Well she's finally managing to keep her head dry, so that's progress at least. It's just so funny to watch her paddling along with only her butt and head afloat!

Yes I will post pics of the pool(s) I;m going to paint the blue pools so they don;t look so much like kiddie pools!! I thought about coating them w Flexseal or similar too to help strengthen them They are just so cheap!! I found a 3500 gal pump on eBay for $60 that retails for $155 on Amazon, so I can easily make a bigger, more natural pond later and I just found 2- 55gal hard plastic food barrels to make a filter system. I think it's going to be pretty cool.... maybe at some point I can have the kiddie pool set-up for my little guys and a bigger natural-like pond for my domestics!!

You've been busy, good deals on what you found. Look forward to seeing it all. Do you have an aviary set up for your little guys so they can't fly off?

Yes I was lucky as there was already a 14x16 roof covering half of the dog run. The other half is uncovered but I will be covering it with netting or chicken wire. I just had to use some chicken wire and hardware cloth to cover any all gaps or areas that could be dangerous for them. All my little ducks are this years hatch and used to being in an enclosure so they don't try to escape. I'd love to make a larger, more realistic pond and have it under a big netted area, but not in the near future anyway.
