Nice pond is it spring fed?Beautiful ducks too. and
Welcome to BYC if I haven't already said.

How old are they?? I would keep them to myself as long as you can!! Once they join the flock, they'll be ducks and not your pets... I HATE THAT!! haha.... The runners in my profile pic were hand raised until they were 8 weeks old.. They were awesome!! They'd follow me around, sit in my lap, eat of my hand etc... I turned them loose and my mama duck ( who had 5- 4 week olds at the time) stole them from me!!!! Now they act like they have no idea who I am!! lol The black one is in the bath tub for a day or two bc he was limping around today and he acts as wild as the ducks I got as adults... so sad.

They're not moving out to the big pen officially for at least another month, but I want the transition to be as painless as possible! My outside flock only has 7 4-month-olds, who I got 8 days after they hatched, so their attitude towards me is still pretty similar to the babies' ("We love you because you have snacks and obviously you protect us from scary things but don't touch us but do you have snacks? We'll follow you around just in case. But no touching. But yes snacks.") Overall, I'm pretty confident I won't lose their regard for me when they join the flock, but I really worry about the bigguns picking on them too much.

Is that your beautiful mallard colored runner? I hope he feels better soon!

Yep the mallard (or grey) runner is Malcolm(the Mallard). Lol. He is rather handsome! He is doing great. That whole prolapsed penis thing wasn't any fun at all. In The bathtub for a month, daily application of neosporin etc, but he's doing great now. Your description of duck behavior is perfect!!! Feed me, feed me, feed me!!! But DO NOT TOUCH ME!!!! Lol. The little blue(grey) one in my profile pic is Gertie and she used to let me pet her she was hand raised, but quit letting me do that at a few months old I think.

Just my over protective opinion since they aren't feathered in I would not want to take them outside especially with rain they can chill pretty quick so ideal temp for them right now would be 70*[ Might ought to bring the others inside and let them meet.] Just kidding.

Just wondering..... My little runners were covered with thick down, I mean like heavy felt! Before they feathered in. As they fell all over the place learning to run I knew exactly why they had that padding!! Doesn't that down also keep them warm and dry? My little ones were in the pool at a week old too. But then again I played in street and had a BB gun when I was little too... Lol. Seriously, I know fall/winter is not the natural time for things to be hatching, but with 50-60 degree temps, has anyone had problems?
