Uuuggggghhhhh! All my girls started waiting until they were let out of the pen in the morning to lay their eggs around the yard, so I got some ceramic eggs to try to get the back to laying in their usual nests I'm their house. Now, Gwaine has apparently gone broody, and is spending a lot of her time on this nest of two ceramic eggs

I haven't caught her actually sitting, but she's obviously used a number of her own feathers to pad the nest, and she's in the house almost every time I go outside during the day. Weyoun also seems to be spending a lot of time in the house with her.

Update: Caught 'em in the act! Gwaine'says nest is more built up, but Weyoun is sitting on the one right across from it, and they're just hanging out gossiping with eachother, sitting on ceramic eggs!

Mine will sit on ceramic eggs probably even snake eggs if they could find some, once they go into broody mode they really don't care. I bet they have alot to gossip about too. lol

Is there anything i can do to encourage my runner duck to start laying eggs again? We lost our drake to a raccoon a little over a month ago and the stress of the whole thing caused her to stop laying. She's with a flock her hatchlings now, we have a dozen 2 month old runners and 9 that are a month and a half old.

If you can get hold of some ceramic eggs and put them in where she was laying before that may help, I ordered ceramic eggs from Premier 1 you might find some at a craft store. They look just like a real egg.

I had the all drake flock for 3 years, yes KC drakes are NASTY! They are fine once mating season is done. Hard to believe those little KC boys are the meanest. Though I'm sure there are exceptions.

When does mating season end? Lol. Our KC never seems to calm down--we've had him two years so far but he's been separated from the girls for the past 6 months...The weird thing is, he is actually a good drake as far as taking care of his girls. He absolutely loves the two he grew up with and tries to make sure they're okay all the time. But he overmates the others like crazy. And we have had some prolapse issues I think because of it. That's mainly why he can't be with the girls.

Fall and winter you shouldn't have any problems with mating. I know, my (former) KC's boys loved to protect their own flocks, but hated everyone else.

Hi everyone! I decided to join the Runner Duck Club! Truth be told I've only ever had 2 runners. When I got my ducklings in the spring I decided I just HAD to get a runner, They're just such great ducks! So I now have one black runner girl named Jasper ( named by a friend ) And she is the nicest, most un-camera shy, one of the most prettiest, ducks in the flock! She's such a wonderful girl. I got some pictures of her today (She POSED for me!!! )

And Let me get a close up!

As you can see I'm using her close-up picture as my Avatar, presently! So that's Jasper
if you want to read more on her personality you can look up my "Journal of the Quackers"
