*~*Runner Duck Club*~*

Ok, crazy stuff this morning. Found a really big egg in my chickens nest box this morning. It was the size of a duck egg. It is light brown like my RIR and Sex links lay, but huge about double their normal sized eggs. The ducks did go in and out of there during the day yesterday, but this was when I let everyone out this morning and I checked several times yesterday. I didn't check last night due to it raining and they were all settled in pretty early. Does anyone know what breed of duck may lay egg that is light brown or did my chicken just lay a huge egg?

I was thinking so too..just baffled cuz instead of my 3 eggs a day I got 5 today. Must have a new layer too...lol. always someone throwing a curve ball. Unless my guinea decided to lay in nest box too, which I seriously doubt. Although one is a bit smaller, but think it's just a new pullet starting to lay.

Hi everyone. I got an injured duckling from the feed store a few weeks ago, and it's doing better now. My question is, is it a runner? The guy at the feed store said it probably was, that they just get a variety of ducks so he never knows what they have. The yellow one in the last pic is the one in question and the other two pics are the more current ones.

The legs on the lil yellow one makes me think Runner can you get some better pics does it mostly stand up straight? Your ducks are pretty and bless you for tasking this one and getting it healthy.

I got some fawn runners last year, and our female actually went broody. From what I've seen last year and with the new ducklings, the females' bills turn dark around the top, just as their voices are starting to change (4-5 weeks). From your pic, I would guess your fawns are drakes. Has anyone else noticed this?

So I have 4 ducklings that are about 10 weeks old (this Friday since I have had them). We bought them the 1st day they came in so I am going to assume they were only a day or two old. They have all their feathers and are starting the molting process now but they still aren't quacking. *sigh* They are trying, but it sounds like teenage boys going through puberty.

I was wondering if anyone could possible guess at what sex these guys may be. I think 1 of the black ones is a drake and the other is a female and the two fawns are girls. Here are some pictures.

First black runner I think is the drake (file 1451).
Second black runner I think is the female (file 1452).
Third picture is the two fawns, which I think are both females (file 154).
Last picture is of the 5 of them (file 1450). The all white we know is a female. She is an adult and quacks!

Of my gender mixed set from Johnson's Waterfowl it has become very easy to tell the girls from the boys, the girls all have spots and other various markings on their bills while the boys have nary a spot.
