Pics
I've never showed my one runner duck in this thread before. I will be adding more to my flock soon(3 blue runners on order).

This is Beaker, my grey runner drake, with part of my flock. His best buddy is Bunsen, the mallard drake next to him.

Hi, fellow Runner Duck enthusiasts! I have a quick question that I hope you can help with. I've got a black female who is just under a year old. She's housed with 3 other ducks in an outdoor pen with a coop attached. I noticed yesterday that she has a bald spot above and to the right of her oil gland, about the size of a golf ball. I feel awful that I didn't notice it before now!

I picked her up & looked her over, and oddly, there is no trauma indicated in the area, no marks of any kind, the skin is completely smooth, no feather quills like you would see on a chicken, just this bald spot. I put her back down and watched her, and she doesn't appear to be picking at it, nor do the other 3 ducks. I can't imagine what it might be. I'll try to get a close-up picture tonight if it's not raining...it's been raining pretty much nonstop in my area for days now. NO fun for me, but the ducks are happy! Anyway, any thoughts?

Are the ducks boys or girls? Any spots where she could squeeze against a fence or board?

Hey, lady! Sorry, when I said "ducks" I meant female. No drakes. That was my thought, too, wonder if there's something she could be running on. But, it's toward the TOP of her back, not her side. It's a weird spot, covered by her wing. In fact, I noticed when she stood up tall & flapped after hopping out of the pool. I can't for the life of me think of what she could possibly be rubbing. I'll get pics tonight, if I have to snatch her up & get her inside the barn first. Would it be red or swollen if it was some sort of disease, or parasite?

It sounds to me that one of the ducks is thinking she is a he and trying to breed. I had a duck that was the same way until my big drake made her his girlfriend exclusively then she got the hint. It is the beginning of the breeding season.

I do have a ?, Do I need to have thier feeders up so they don't have to bend down and eat? How do they do with grassing and looking for other ducky treats?
