*~*Runner Duck Club*~*

I took these pictures today, I only have one Indian Runner, but would not pass up the opportunity to get another one, I really like them. They are all laying now, but I got 4 eggs yesterday and some times I get 6 eggs. The Khake Campbell is laying down in the picture, I think she is in the process of laying a egg. I think she has been in the molt ever since I got her several weeks ago. Her feathers are in terrible shape. She is the lowest on the pecking order but they all have free choice of all. I take warm water out for them several times a day.

Well I thought that with the stress of being cornered and caught (first time I've ever picked her up!) and put Ina strange new place, she might not lay. Honestly I'm not sure who IS laying! I was pleasantly surprised and happy to see that my Ducky Dayspa gets her approval! Lol
Seems to have made an impression.

@LeannS I don't think she would be laying if in molt are you sure they aren't picking on her being lowest on pecking order? They are all beautiful

I got the Indian Runner and the Khaki Campbell one month ago. They were kept with chickens and went open range in that neighbor hood. I have a suspicion, that there might be a mite . When the weather was a little warmer, she had the opportunity to take a bath, She did not go in until the second day and I do not think her feathers are oil`d enough she did preen herself, going through the motions even if she did not get wet. She acts normal, eats and lays eggs and does not mind being the lowest, seems quit content. I hesitate stressing her out by catching her now. Any advice I do appreciate. If she does have mites, it would be a no see em. There was a Indian Runner Drake with the two duck hens but I did not take the Drake.

Mites cause anemia and even death so if you suspect mites you need to treat them and where they sleep and lay. Mites live in the cracks and crevices of our coops and come out at night to feed on our birds. You can use poultry dust that would be my last resort since the dust is awful but there are other ways bathing usually takes care of external parasites on our water fowl so treating their house would be using some kind of spray I use neem oil I mix it in a 1 gal garden pump sprayer and shake often while using I spray all walls ceiling and floors of my coops When I had a bad out break I took all bedding out and carried it off way into the woods so they mites wouldn't still be around after I got my chickens and coop treated,. You can use poultry dust. poultry protector it comes in spray or frontline for dogs spray. I use Poultry protector in my coops also going back and froth between that and neem. Poultry protector is safe to use on our birds. My water fowl haven't ever had external parasites just my chickens but if these ducks were kept with chickens and they had them and the ducks hadn't a way to bathe then there is a possibility she could have mites.

Carson, my chocolate runner, was rescued from a guy that had him w chickens too. He had never seen another duck,!I doubt he had ever seen water and he was filthy dirty. The guy had him on Ctaigslist as a black runner. Poor Carson. I brought him home and put him in a warm bath overnight to clean up. The next day when I took him outside in the sunlight to introduce him to his new flock, it was only then in the sunlight that I realized he was a beautiful chestnut chocolate!!! No mites, but ducks shouldn't just be kept with chickens and no swimming water!! Carson ran around like a child on Christmas meeting other sucks for the first time and frolicking in the pool!! Funny, but now he's the head Cayuga, he doesn't hang w the runners!! Lol

She does look a little rough.. If you have mites in their house you can find out pretty easy go in right at dark run you hand in the bedding along the walls mites look like tiny tiny pepper flakes newly hatched look like tiny tiny tiny white pepper. Also look around under her feathers at her vent and at her neck and under her wings.. She isn't going to like you messing with her but we have to at times ,she'll get over it.

. Update on Buffy. Just named today as she has 2 nearly identical sisters so I just called them the Buff Triplets. For a duck that's never been held, she is doing awesome! I have her foot wrapped in Epsom salt rag and her wrapped in a bath towel for about 30 min now. I took out of the tub and watched her preen for about 20 min. No poop on the floor at all!! She makes little duckling peeps when I hold her so funny.
