*~*Runner Duck Club*~*

@Ducks4us
 - You're so lucky that your feed store has Runners, I've only ever seen my TSC carry Rouens.

Oh really! Yes ours has quite a few diff breeds. I have seen
Mallard
Rouen
Pekin
Blue and black swedish
All colors of runners
Cayuga
Khakis
Buffs

The usually have a few crested pekins too.
I didnt "need" any more lol. But since i wont be keeping any drakes it will all even out. I wanted 12 total. We eat a lot of eggs and so does my family.
Cant wait till we finally start getting some eggs!

I'm a new Runner mommy!I would like to join the club!

Awwhh! Thanks!

Yeahhh, I'm still calling her Sassyfras , but I sneak a "PeepSqueek" in there every once in awhile just in case she..well he.. is a Drake I can call him Peepsqueek! See I'm thinking ahead! Lol!! I think she is a she! But there is always that chance! We're keeping her as a house duck, so if she is a he it will be ok!

Oh thats fun you get to have a house duck!! And thats great you can keep it either way:)

At about what age do their "voices" start to change? & what am.i listening for?(for a girl?) Will it be obvious?
If it gets out a loud quack, definitely a girl. Boys only make 3 sounds in their lives: a peep, then a drake raspy quacky thing or a whistle. I made this a while ago. It shows my 2 drakes making their sound, then all my ducks making various sounds. When they first get out of peeping, it can be unclear, but if it clunks, or chuckles or quacks, it's a girl.

My female runner ducks are 3 1/2 weeks old and still make the baby peeping sound but its mixed with a deeper kinda honky sound. They have been doing it mixed with their peeping since about 2- 2 1/2 weeks old
And i would say yes you will notice the difference for sure.
My two khakis that are boys still sound like babies but quieter sounding already at 4 1/2 weeks.
The girl noises are obvious.
