How nice great coop for Texas. :thumbsup

Your going to put a lock on your sliding door right or a bolt ?
Yes, I'm just not sure what type yet.... hubby is a big fan of slide bolts, so that's prolly what we will use.

I do have a question for you: one of the older (3 weeks, I think..) ducklings looks like she has the beginnings of conjunctivitis. It's looking better after a good wash, but I'm not sure at what point to begin antibiotics? Right now she has a small amount of discharge and the second lid is closing sometimes. My thought is to keep an eye on it and begin topical antibiotics if improvement doesn't continue tomorrow? All the others are looking normal.

View attachment 1024255 So, after a sweaty weekend of building (and dodging some angry yellowjackets that had set up house on our ladder...) we completed the duck house! Hoping to finish and attach the run next weekend.

Hopefully the ducks will enjoy it as much as my kids have enjoyed playing zoo in it! :p
Looks great! Sorry if you've already mentioned the corrugated roofing, but may I ask what material it is? Metal? Other? I'm also in Texas. Thank you.

Maybe she isn't washing her head very much. I'd put some ACV into their buckets 1 Tab per gallon of water let her use it for a day or 2 and see how her eyes look. If she still has discharge then start the topical.

Thanks so much! You are absolutely right. I had been letting them splash in the mornings, but was running behind today, and didn't get to it until mid afternoon. And, I think they outgrew the "milk jug head dunker" I had engineered. I made a new-improved and properly-sized one they are happily using now.

Will go add ACV to waterers now!
Thanks again!!:)

The LONE DUCKLING v.s. the SECOND DUCKLING

The LONE DUCKLING had a stuffed bear as a momma.
It drank water, a little, at 24+ hours.
It pecked at food at 48 hours.
It began to eat a bit on day 3, but still mostly slept.
It began to make solid weight gains on day 6.

The SECOND DUCKLING was born a week after the LONE DUCKLING. They met shortly after the Second Duckling was born. Eight hours later, they had a play date (with supervision). The Lone Duckling relentlessy poked and prodded. He tried to tear off the Second Duckling's wing (but it was solidly attached). He poked at his eye, but the Second Duckling learned to move his head away. He tried to eat the Second Duckling's foot, so the Second Duckling learned to keep his feet under him.

Four hours later, the Second Duckling had learned to get around and was playing in the water bowl (at 12 hours old), comfortably sticking his bill wayyyy down with the water covering his nostrils.

They spent the night together. Then they spent the day together. When I got home from work, I found Second Duckling (at 36 hours) eating a big mouthful of food!!! I took them outside, and Second Duckling was following me almost as fast as Lone Duckling - even through tall grass!

The stuffed bear was a sweet momma substitute and... it worked while there was no other choice. But a live duckling is a much better friend!

Now I just need to think of names for the pair!
